Once the holding stage ends, the cooling stage begins. The mold is equipped with internal cooling channels (hollow tubes) through which a coolant (usually water or oil) circulates. The coolant absorbs heat from the molten plastic, causing it to solidify into the shape of the mold cavity. The cooling time is determined by the plastic’s thickness, thermal conductivity, and melting point: thin parts (e.g., a 1mm-thick smartphone case) may cool in 10–20 seconds, while thick parts (e.g., a 10mm-thick plastic container) require 1–2 minutes.
Cooling is a critical stage for product quality: if cooled too quickly, the plastic may develop internal stresses or cracks; if cooled too slowly, production cycles lengthen, reducing efficiency. The machine’s controller monitors the mold temperature to ensure consistent cooling across each cycle. Once the plastic is fully solidified, the cooling stage ends.
